Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, 2 a.m. (Updated Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, 6 p.m.) — Two juveniles — ages 8 and 10 — may face charges related to their alleged involvement in the burglary of a New Haven home Thursday afternoon.
New Haven Police Chief K.C. Holbert told the Nelson County Gazette the juveniles are alleged to have entered a Center Street residence early Thursday afternoon while the homeowner was away and took four firearms from the home. When the homeowner arrived he found the door to the home open. Holbert received a call about the burglary at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
During his investigation, Holbert said a nearby resident reported seeing the juveniles in the area around the time of the burglary. Both the neighbor and the victim were familiar with the juveniles.
The firearms were located buried in the snow near the home with the help of one of the juveniles allegedly involved in the burglary.
Holbert said charges against the juveniles won’t be filed until he has an opportunity to discuss the case with prosecutors and state child protective services officials.
