Obituary: Deacon Joseph James Wall, 83, New Hope
Deacon Joseph James Wall, 83, of New Hope, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at University Hospital in Louisville.
He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in New York City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired employee of American Water Works in New Jersey. In 1975, he was part of the first permanent diaconate class ordained in the Archdiocese of Newark, N.J. He served as a deacon for many years at St. Teresa’s Church in Summit, N.J. and at St. John’s Church in Newark. Since 2002, he served as a deacon in Nelson County at St. Vincent de Paul in New Hope, the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, and Windsor Gardens Retirement Community. He was also a Third-Order Dominican.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bedelia Wall and two sons, Joseph and Thomas Wall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Beirne Wall; one daughter, Mary Manion (Francis) of Bardstown; two sons, David Wall (Leal) of Harrington, Del. and Samuel Wall of New Jersey; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Hope with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
