In the May primary, Floyd will face off against Republican Chad McCoy, who filed today as a Republican candidate for state representative in the 50th District. The district’s boundaries included all of Nelson County.

The winner of the May primary will go on to face Democrat Jim DeWeese, who filed as a candidate today as well.

Floyd was elected to the state house in 2004.

In 2014, Floyd was challenged by Democrat Audrey Haydon. Floyd won with 53.3 percent of the vote.

In 2012, Floyd faced former Bardstown Mayor Dick Heaton in the general election, winning that race with 53.4 percent of the vote. Floyd also had a GOP challenger in 2012. Donna Pegago of Cox’s Creek.

Bloomfield Democrat Eddie O’Daniel squared off against Floyd in the 2010 general election. Floyd won that contest with 63 percent of the vote.

Floyd faced no opposition in 2008. In 2004, Floyd topped former Bardstown City Councilman Tommy Reed to win the open 50th district seat.

Before his election to the office in 2004, Floyd ran twice for state representative and lost — in 1996 and 1998.
