Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 — The Bardstown Fire Department responded to the Bloomfield Road Dollar General Store Thursday night after an employee bardstown_fire_200reported the smell of smoke in the building.

Firefighters were dispatched to the store located at 975 Bloomfield Road at about 9:40 p.m.. The employee said she heard popping noises from an electrical box. The store was evacuated when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters said the problem was caused by a freezer connected via an extension court. Fire crews removed the extension cord, and plugged the freezer directly into the wall outlet.

First-responders were on the scene for about 20 minutes.
