Christopher Bailey Crepps, 20, was arrested and charged with fleeing and evading, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief.

The incident began Thursday night at about 11:30 when Officer Jeremy Cauley of the Bardstown Police Department attempted to stop a maroon Ford Ranger pickup truck with canceled registrations plates on East John Rowan near Wal-Mart. When Cauley attempted the traffic stop, Crepps took off and entered the Bluegrass Parkway heading west.

Several city police cars from the Bardstown Police and Nelson County Sheriff’s Office participated in the chase, which reached speeds of up to 95 mph. According to police, Crepps ran semi off the road as he took Exit 21. With officers in pursuit, he headed south on New Haven Road.

The pickup truck turned onto Balltown Road briefly, then turned back onto New Haven Road and continued south, then turned onto Monks Road before turning onto a logging round. Police continued to pursue the truck as far as they could on the logging road. Crepps fled the truck and police and Cauley’s K9 were unable to locate him in the area.

Police located items in the truck that belonged to Crepps. As officers searched the area, Cauley was able to talk with Crepps by cellphone where he agreed to make his way back to Monks Road and turn himself in. He was taken into custody just before 3 a.m.

Police cruisers operated by Officer Cauley and Nelson County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Clark both sustained damage during the pursuit, and additional police vehicles may have sustained damage.

The investigation is ongoing, and individuals with information regarding the investigation are asked to contact the Bardstown Police Department, (502) 348-6811 or Nelson County Dispatch (502) 348-3211.
