First Cedar Creek choir director to perform in Ky. Opera’s ‘Showboat’

Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 — The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church adult choir director, Margareth Miguel, will be singing with the Kentucky Opera production of “Showboat”, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, Feb. 18-20, 2016, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at the Brown Theatre, 315 West Broadway in Louisville.

Margareth is a native of Brazil, received a bachelor’s degree in music (voice) in 2006 and a bachelor’s degree in church music in 1998 in São Paulo, Brazil. She came to America in 2008 where she earned a master’s degree in music (vocal performance) from Campbellsville University in 2012.
“In Brazil, I grew up in a family of musicians and sang in church choir. My father played saxophone and was a band conductor. This musical atmosphere in my home gave me the incentive to study music and to choose music as my career.”
“Showboat” will be Margareth’s fifth Kentucky Opera appearance. In addition to singing with the Kentucky Opera and being the adult choir director for The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Margareth teaches voice lessons and sings in an ensemble of St. Stephens Baptist Church in Louisville.
The adult choir of The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church rehearses at 8 p.m. every Wednesday and presents special music in the 11 a.m. worship service each Sunday. The choir is currently preparing the Easter cantata “It is Finished”. Margareth has been the choir director for six months. For more information, call 502-507-7159.
