Obituary: Frances Lee Roby, 81
Frances Lee Roby, 81, joined the angels Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was surrounded in death as she was in life by her family and her wonderful caregivers at The Loretto Motherhouse. She was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Colesburg to Emma Lucy Harris Roby and Will Lee Roby. She grew up surrounded by eight loving brothers and sisters. On the farm she learned at an early age the value of a strong work ethic and instilled that in her children and grandchildren.
She was a former employee of Jim Beam Distillery. After 28 years she reluctantly left her Jim Beam work family in 1996 to battle breast cancer. She loved anything involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she enjoyed watching basketball and baseball. She was a master at the game of checkers; famous in her family for her homemade biscuits, cheesecakes, and sausage balls.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her former husband, Charlie Newton; two sisters, Aline Rankin and Pauline Hamilton; five brothers, Robert Roby, Ernest Roby, Bill Roby, James Roby, and Albert Lee Roby; and one great-grandson, Alex Newton.
Left behind to miss her deeply are two daughters, Diane (Dave Ballard) Thompson of Bardstown and Delita (John) Hamilton of Fredericktown; two sons, Ernie (Debra) Newton of Holy Cross and Troy (Peggy) Newton of Louisville; 10 grandchildren, Felix (Amanda) Thompson, Jennifer (Neal) Newton, Toby (Claudia) Thompson, Wade Newton, Stacy (Pat) Newton, Ryan (Jamie) Newton, Blake (Kayla) Newton, Karlee (Kenny) Ray, Roby Newton and Beth Newton; nine great-grandchildren, Dalton Newton, Landon Newton, Emily Newton, Thomas Newton, Grant Newton, Abigail Burke, Paislee Ray, Amelia Newton and Henry Thompson; her sister Betty Jean (Lewis) Stotts; and special sister-in-law/partner in fun, Florence Roby.
