Obituary: John R. ‘JR’ Dennis, 96, Bardstown
John R. “JR” Dennis, 96, of Bardstown, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at his residence. He was born in Bloomfield on Oct. 4, 1919. He was a member of the Nelson Christian Church and was retired from Jim Beam Distillery where he worked for 37 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Ball Dennis; his parents, George and Eliza Hahn Dennis; two sisters; and six brothers.
He is survived by his two daughters, Judith A. Dennis of Bardstown and Brenda Lee of Louisville; two sisters, Gladys Simpson of Bardstown and Juanita Conway of Louisville;
three grandchildren, Terri Thomas(Tracy), Craig (Joey) White, Karen (Ken) Karl; four great-grandchildren, Joshua (Pamela) Thomas, Katie, Kenny and Kassidy Karl; and one great-great-grandchild, Cassie Thomas.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at the Nelson Christian Church with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home and 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Nelson Christian Church Building Fund, 1760 New Shepherdsville Road, Bardstown, KY., 40004.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
