Bardstown man arrested on drug charges following traffic violation

Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, 3 p.m. — A Bardstown man was arrested Thursday afternoon on drug charges after he was stopped by police for a traffic violation.

John C. Lewis, 28, of Bardstown, was stopped in the area of Honeysuckle Lane at about 12:55 p.m. Thursday by Bardstown Police Officer Kyler Wright. During the traffic stop, Wright detected the odor of marijuana coming from the driver or the vehicle, and he requested and was granted permission to conduct a search.

During the search, Wright found baggies of marijuana and approximately $3,600 in cash hidden in Lewis’ crotch area. Once in the Nelson County Jail, a detailed search revealed two bags of cocaine hidden on his person.

Lewis was arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in controlled substances; trafficking in marijuana; promoting contraband; tampering with physical evidence; and the traffic violation.
