Bardstown Police K-9 leads to drug bust during Sunday traffic stop

Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, 12:20 p.m. — A New Haven man was arrested Sunday morning after a Bardstown Police officer’s K-9 detected the possible drugs in the man’s vehicle during a traffic stop.

1_drugbustTimothy Scott Newton, 48, of New Haven, was arrested on drug-related charges following a traffic stop by Bardstown Officers Eric Williamson and Jeremy Cauley. Police stopped Newton driving a 2006 silver Chevrolet after observing traffic offenses. During the traffic stop, Cauley’s K-9, Ace, indicated the possible presence of drugs in the area of the driver’s side door.

A search of the vehicle turned up two bags of cocaine, loose crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Newton was arrested and charged with failure to or improper signal; reckless driving; possession of drug paraphernalia; and first-degree trafficking in controlled substances. He was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.

At 6:16 a.m. Sunday, police executed a search warrant on Newton’s residence in New Haven. During the search, officers located drug paraphernalia, digital scales, 20-gauge shotgun ammunition, a 20-gauge shotgun, a small amount of cash, plastic baggies of marijuana seeds, a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition and a Red Ford Mustang that were seized from the property.

Newton was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree with weapon enhancement; trafficking in marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
