Obituary: Ellen Pearl Bowman 98, Bloomfield
Ellen Pearl Bowman 98, of Bloomfield, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at Norton Women’s and Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. She was born March 27, 1917 in Spencer County to the late Willie and Ollie Martin. She was a homemaker who loved to quilt, and was known for her many beautiful works. She was the oldest living member of Chaplin Baptist Church and the oldest resident at Bluegrass Assisted Living in Bardstown.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 80 years, William Herbert Bowman; two sisters, Nancy Beatrice Pierce and Beulah Rogers; and three brothers, Zeb Martin, Hillary Martin and Lawrence Martin.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Kent) Akers of Bardstown; two sisters, Florence Maddox and Frances Chesser, both of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Alan Akers of Evanston, Ill. and Brandon Akers of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with burial in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, and noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Chaplin Baptist Church, the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
