Obituary: Joseph Wilbur Bivens, 69, Bardstown

Joseph Wilbur Bivens, 69, of Bardstown, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Springview Hospital in Lebanon. He was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Bardstown. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church.funeral_candle

He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Mary Cecilia Barnes Bivens; four sisters, Viola Dunlap, Nan Buie, Mary Catherine Johnson, and Lucille Woods; and four brothers, John F. Bivens Jr., Williams Bivens, Charles Leo Bivens, and Henry T. Bivens.

He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Bivens (Kenton) Smith, and Brandie Bivens (Hunter) Smith both of Louisville; one son, Joseph William Bivens Sr.; two sisters, Anna L. Williams of Louisville and Bertha L. Thomas of Bardstown; one brother, James W. Bivens of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, Joseph W. Bivens Jr., Jada Bivens, TaiAnna, Elijah, and Branden Johnson, Hayden, and James Smith, Caedyn, Camryn, Kaycee, and Kendyl Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Bardstown with the Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating.

Visitation is 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday, at the church.

Memorial contributions may go to American Diabetes Association or Masses at St. Monica.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
