Obituary: William Alfred Hutchins Jr., 92, Bardstown

William Alfred Hutchins Jr., 92, of Bardstown, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at his residence. He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Nelson County to the late W. A. and Mattie Parrent Hutchins Sr.

He was a retired employee of General Electric, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 121 and a member of St. Thomas Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

He was preceded in death by six sisters; two brothers; and one grandson, Norman “Tink” Stump.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Brown Hutchins; three daughters, Nora Stump and Patsy (J.M.) Mercer, both of Bardstown and Donna (Chris) Newton of Holy Cross; three sons, Greg (Debbie) Hutchins of Elizabethtown, Philip Wayne Hutchins of Bardstown and Al (Sandra) Hutchins of New Haven; one sister, Ann Cecil of New Haven; three brothers, Joe Hutchins of Louisville, Leo Hutchins of Florida and Gilbert (Stella) Hutchins of Gravel Switch; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016,at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Hopper officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road. A prayer service is 7 p.m. Monday.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
