Thursday, March 16, 2016, 11 p.m. — A burning pile of brush led to a woods fire that burned four to five acres off Berman Wells Road in northern Nelson County Wednesday afternoon.
Bardstown Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the 800 block of Berman Wells Road at 4:22 p.m. for a burning brush pile that was spreading into a wooded area nearby. Firefighters requested assistance from the Northeast Nelson Fire Department to get the fire under control. Crews had the fire mostly knocked down by 5:40 p.m., and remained on scene until about 7 p.m. making sure the fire was extinguished. The Kentucky Division of Forestry was advised of the incident because the controlled burn was in violation of state law regulating open burns during the forest fire hazard seasons, Feb. 15 through April 30, and Oct. 1 through Dec. 15.
