Couple arrested Thursday night in North Third Street drug bust

Friday, March 18, 2016, 10 a.m. — Two people were arrested Thursday night on drug charges following an investigation of allegations that a Bardstown man and his girlfriend were involved in drug trafficking.
On Thursday, Bardstown Police had information that Travis Cundiff, 36, and Kimberly M. Newton, 23, both of Bardstown, were in the home at 1421 North Third St. Cundiff had active arrest warrants for being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and persistent felony offender.
Police observed Cundiff in the home and took him into custody. After obtaining permission to search the home from its renters, officers located approximately 2 grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana, a five-gallon bucket that had been used as a one-step methamphetamine lab, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of cash.
Cundiff and Newton were both arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail. Cundiff was charged with persistent felony offender, first-degree and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Both were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine; trafficking in controlled substances, first-degree; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and tampering with physical evidence.
