Obituary: Garnett Davis, 90, Campbellsville
Garnett Davis, 90, of Campbellsville, died at 7:05 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Campbellsville. He was the son of the late Edgar Davis and Jessie Mae Speer Davis, and was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Taylor County. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II having served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter, EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the World War II Army of Occupation Medal Germany. He was a member of the Elkhorn Masonic Lodge #568 F & AM. He was a retired farmer. He united in marriage to Bernice Hash July 4, 1946.
He was preceded by his wife, Bernice Hash (Aug. 30, 2011); two sisters, Barbara Collins and Edna Kerr; three brothers, Lee Davis, Shelby Ray Davis and William C. Davis; and one grandson, Joshua Ryan Davis (April 25, 2013).
He is survived by one son, Will Davis (Donna) of Campbellsville; three sisters, Louise Kerr of Dayton, Ohio, Jean Mattingly of Bardstown and Margaret Marples of Campbellsville; two brothers, Johnny Davis and Bobby Davis, both of Campbellsville; one grandson, Jeremiah Davis (Tabetha), of Campbellsville; two great-grandsons, Elliott Davis and Evan Davis, both of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the Rev. Michael Goodwin officiating. Burial is in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy are requested to take the form of donations to the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard or the Elkhorn Masonic Lodge.
