emslogoMonday, March 28, 2016, 12:06 p.m. –– Power in parts of eastern Bardstown was interrupted for a time Monday after a car struck an electric utility pole on Commerce Drive along Bloomfield Road at about 11 a.m. The 57-year-old driver is believed to have blacked out and his car struck a utility pole, breaking it off. The pole landed on top of the vehicle, trapping the driver inside. First-responders were unable to access the victim until a city utility crew arrived to deal with the live power lines. At least two nearby businesses were evacuated due to the lines proximity to two 500 gallon propane tanks. The man was trapped for about 45 minutes before Nelson County EMS transported to the man to Flaget Memorial Hospital. A utility worker was also transported to Flaget after experiencing chest pains while at the accident scene. Bardstown Fire, Bardstown Police and the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
