2 dead, 2 injured in head-on crash on US150 near Washington Co. line

Friday, April 8, 2016, 4 p.m. (UPDATED 10 p.m.) — Two people died and two others were injured Friday afternoon in a head-on crash on Springfield Road near the Washington County line. Nelson County EMS, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Nelson County Fire & Rescue were dispatched at 2:07 p.m. for a head-on crash involving a passenger car and and a pickup truck.

A 17-year-old male died at the scene. The 47 year-old man who was driving the pickup truck was ejected from his vehicle. He was transported to Flaget where he later died.

Two other 17-year-old males, one with possible leg, arm and facial injuries, the second with possible leg injuries, were transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital. They were later transferred to University Hospital in Louisville.

The accident tied up traffic on Springfield Road for nearly two hours. Washington County EMS assisted Nelson County EMS with transporting victims, and the Washington County Fire Department assisted county firefighters with extrication of the victims.

New Haven Police Chief K.C. Holbert assisted at the scene with accident reconstruction.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
