Obituary: Joseph Russell “J.R.” Ballard, 88, Bardstown
Joseph Russell “J.R.” Ballard, 88, of Bardstown, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Washington County. He was a retired dairy farmer and school bus driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Blanche Ballard; one daughter, Patsy Bartley; his parents, Arch and Elsie Corbett Ballard; three sisters, Rose Lyvers, Marita Palmer and infant Clara Mae Ballard; and two brothers, Pat Ballard and John Ballard.
Survivors include two daughters, Penny Smith (Rick) and Polly Brothers, both of Bardstown; one son, Archie Ballard (Mary) of Bardstown; one sister, Mary Birch of Bardstown; one brother, Mickey Ballard (Phyllis) of Samuels; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his companion, Norma Lee Ballard.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with Deacon Scott Turner officiating. Burial is in the Ballard Family Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016, and 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Kurt Ballard, Archie Ballard, Duncan Brothers, Parmer Smith, Todd Bartley and Jerry Bartley; Honorary Pallbearer is his grandson, John Bartley.
The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of the arrangements.
