Monday, April 11, 2016, 4:30 p.m. — Legislative leaders have delayed the final day of the 2016 General Assembly to allow lawmakers more time to reach an agreement on the state’s two-year budget.
According to a press release, the final day of the 2016 session is changed from Tuesday, April 12 to Friday, April 15.
Without the change the session would have ended Tuesday. Lawmakers serving on a free conference committee will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday in hopes of finalizing a budget agreement that lawmakers can vote on when the Senate and House convene at noon on Friday.
Friday is the last day that lawmakers could meet in session for the final day of the 2016 Regular Session due to a state constitutional deadline. Lawmakers have already met for 59 of the 60 days allowed by the constitution for this year’s regular session.
