SYLVESTER “TOOTER” JANES

Sylvester “Tooter” Janes, 86, of Bardstown, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville. He was the son of the late Elmer “Jake” and Emma Hardesty Janes and was born July 29, 1929, in Bloomfield. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Dale Janes.

He is survived by his wife, Susanne Mattingly Janes; two daughters, Linda Janes of Jeffersonville, Ind. and Kitty Gritton of Louisville; two brothers, Bobby Janes of Lawrenceburg and Jackie (Joyce) Janes of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Laura Martin and Dawn Roswall; and four great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at St. Gregory Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Graffis celebrating. Burial is in the Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A prayer service is 6:30 p.m. Thursday with Deacon Joe Lyvers.

The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
