Obituary: Celestina ‘Cely’ Dela Cruz Soliman, 80, Bardstown
Celestina “Cely” Dela Cruz Soliman, 80, of Bardstown, died peacefully, after a four-year battle with cancer on the early evening of Friday April 15, 2016, at Norton Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville surrounded and comforted by her family.
She was born in Manila, Philippines on April 6, 1936, the oldest of six children born to Leon Dela Cruz and Silvina Talavera Dela Cruz. She was best known for her generosity, kind and spunky spirit and fashion style. Her lasagna, sourdough bread and turtle cake were legendary. She loved animals and was especially fond of cats. Even in her last days as she struggled to stay awake, images of cats on Animal Planet always made her smile. She was a fan of Michael Jackson, Dancing with the Stars and comedies.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, retired Colonel and physician, Patricio Francisco Soliman Jr.; five of six children, Greta, Lot, Pat, Arnold and Solita; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday April 18, 2016, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church with cremation following the service.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
