Obituary: Julian Lester ‘Crazy Red’ Maupin, 92, Mount Washington

Julian Lester “Crazy Red” Maupin, 92, of Mount Washington, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was the owner of Crazy Red’s Bargain Outlet in Mount Washington for 45 years.

He was a former Mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a former firefighter with the Louisville Fire Department. He and his wife Lucille raised their family on their farm, which is now a part of the Broad Run Park. He was an avid horseman and loved Appaloosa and Quarter Horses, not to mention his love for the Iron Horse, Harley-Davidson.

His store was a place where anyone could just simply shoot the breeze; the door was always open as he welcomed many lively conversations. He was a well-known and highly respected member of the community. He was truly a Mount Washington legend.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 yrs, Lucille Maupin; his mother, Eddie Maupin; his father, Jennings Maupin; one sister, Alice Blanche Coogle; one brother, Ancel Gene “Buddy” Maupin.

He is survived by two daughters, Julie McIntyre (Frank) and Kevyn Braun (George); one son, Alan Maupin (Liz); nine grandchildren, Shauna Bryant (Donnie), Kim Waldridge (Tracy), Jody Grigsby (Matt), Micah McIntyre (Chelsea), Zachary Maupin, Coulten Maupin (Michaela), Joseph Braun (Jessica), Jacob Braun and Jamie Braun; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody Bryant, Tyler Bryant, Jenna Scrogham (Aaron), Olivia Bryant, Lauryn Waldridge, Hunter Waldridge, Josie Grigsby, Kylie Braun, Luke Braun and Braylen Maupin; loving nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends.

The funeral is noon Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Schmid Funeral Home in Mount Washington with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, and after 9 a.m.- noon Saturday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the KY Humane Society.

The Schmid Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
