Former Mayor Bill Sheckles is ninth candidate to file for city council

Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 12:15 p.m. — Former Bardstown Mayor Bill Sheckles filed Tuesday morning as a candidate in the November election for Bardstown City Council.
Sheckles is the ninth candidate and second former Bardstown mayor to file for one of the six seats on the Bardstown City Council. Sheckles was a longtime council member who served as mayor from 2010-2014. He lost to current Mayor John Royalty in the November 2014 election.
The other council candidates so far include Richard Nest, a resident of South Center Street and Lucy Drive resident Franklin Thompson, who both filed for council on Monday, May 23, 2016; longtime former councilman and Mayor Dick Heaton; former county attorney John Kelley; David C. Dones; David Erickson; Sean Ralston; and Michael Johnson.
To date, none of the current council members have filed for re-election. The filing deadline to be a candidate for city council or other non-partisan local office on the Nov. 8, 2016, ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.
