Three departments respond Monday for North Charity Heights barn fire

Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 3 p.m. — A large livestock barn owned by D. L. and Virginia Chowning was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon at a home on North Charity Heights in Nazareth Farms subdivision.

The Nelson County Fire Department was dispatched to the area at 1:25 p.m. Monday for the fire that created a column of smoke visible for miles. The county fire department was assisted by the Northeast Nelson Fire Department and the Bardstown Fire Department in fighting the blaze. The barn was a total loss.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office assisted fire crews with traffic control to allow tanker trucks to shuttle water quickly to the fire scene.

The barn was a complete loss. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately three hours.
