Obituary: Rebecca ‘Becky’ Crawford, 74, Bardstown

Rebecca “Becky” Crawford, 74, of Bardstown, joined her husband in Heaven on May 24, 2016. She was born July 8, 1941, and spent her early childhood on a farm in Shepherdsville. She moved along with her mother, Gladys Tyler and her little brother, Edward Tyler, to Bardstown in about 1954.

She was a graduate of Bardstown High School and Georgetown College. She moved to Dayton, Ohio where she taught biology and home economics. funeral_flowerShe met and married James Jay Crawford, a pilot in the U.S. Air Force in 1968. They moved to Valdosta, Ga., where he was stationed until his deployment to Thailand during the Vietnam War. While he was deployed she moved back to Bardstown. After his death in 1972, she remained in Bardstown where she had her daughter Ellen. She attended Elizabethtown Community College where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse at Flaget Memorial Hospital and also worked as the school nurse at Bardstown City Schools for 25 years.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown, and was active in the Hearing Loss Association of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain James J. Crawford; and her parents, Edward Crutchfield and Gladys Ice Tyler Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Crawford of Nimy, Belgium; one brother, Edward C. (Mary) Tyler of St. Augustine, Fla.; and two nephews, John (Amanda) Tyler of DeLand, Fla., and Matthew Tyler of St. Augustine, Fla.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown with burial in the Hebron Cemetery in Shepherdsville. Bro. John Sanderson will officiate.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Bardstown or the Kentucky Home Chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America, P.O. Box 882, Bardstown, 40004.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
