Obituary: Joseph Ignatius ‘Ig’ Ballard Sr, 91, Loretto
JOSEPH IGNATIUS “IG” BALLARD SR.
Joseph Ignatius “Ig” Ballard Sr, 91, of Loretto, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at Baptist Health Louisville. He was born Sept. 1, 1924, in Holy Cross. He was a former president of the old Bank of Loretto, a former operator of Ballard Insurance and Real Estate, a lifelong farmer, a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleophas Fabian and Anna Marie Hagan Ballard; two sisters, Flavia Moschetti and Theresa Spalding; seven brothers, Aloysius Ballard, Paschal Ballard, Emmanuel Ballard, Paul Ballard, Caleb Ballard, Benny Ballard and Frank Ballard.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Cecilia Luckett Ballard; two daughters, Fran Nusbaum (Mike) of Louisville and Julie Ballard of Elizabethtown; two sons, Joe Ballard (Lucy) of Loretto and Doug Ballard of Louisville; one sister, Agnes Simms (Bobby) of Georgetown, Ind.; five sisters-in-law, Jane Ballard of Holy Cross, Susan Ballard and Dorothy Ballard, both of Bardstown, Mary Ballard of Lexington and Elaine Ballard of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Daniel Nusbaum, Michael Nusbaum and Ellen Nusbaum and Kimberly Brussell; and two great-grandchildren, Blake Brussell and Braylee Brussell.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto, with burial in the St. Augustine cemetery in Lebanon. The Rev. Bill Bowling will officiate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Memorial donations may go to Mass of the Air, 508 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207 or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 113 North 4th Street, Bardstown, KY 40004.
Pallbearers are Daniel Nusbaum, Michael Nusbaum, Ellen Nusbaum, Kimberly Brussell, Robbie Brussell and Bobby Simms.
The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of the arrangements.
