Officers chase down driver going west in BG Parkway’s eastbound lanes

Friday, June 10, 2016, 2 a.m.(UPDATED 11 a.m.) — A passenger car traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Bluegrass Parkway prompted a response by Bardstown Police officers and Nelson County deputies early Thursday night as officers worked to catch the vehicle and get it stopped.
At 11:38 p.m. Thursday, Nelson County Dispatch alerted local law enforcement of a blue passenger car going the wrong way on the Bluegrass Parkway at the 25 mile marker.
Dispatch received numerous phone calls from eastbound vehicles that encountered the car going the wrong way. Bardstown Police Officers Jeremy Cauley and Derek Sidebottom caught up with the errant driver and Cauley stopped the car near the parkway’s 12 mile marker.
The driver of the car, Kyle Baetens, 30, of Frankfort, was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, first-degree; possession of controlled substances, third-degree (drug unspecified); possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle; prescription controlled substance not in proper container; no insurance.
Deputy Mike Clark of the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office investigated a non-injury accident involving a car Baetens struck while driving his car in the wrong direction.
Baetens was lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
