Bardstown man found shot in car Tuesday on KY 55 north of Springfield

Wednesday, June 15, 2016, 2 p.m. — Kentucky State Police detectives from the Columbia post are investigating the shooting death of a Bardstown man who was found with a gunshot wound in a car near Springfield.
KSP troopers were contacted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office after deputies responded at about 10 a.m. Tuesday for a call regarding a shooting victim found in a car. Police found Yul A. Rayford, 51, of Bardstown, lying inside his vehicle which was parked a mile and a half north of Springfield on KY 55 (Bloomfield Road).

Rayford was still alive when found, and he was flown by helicopter to University Hospital were he died. The victim was last seen at his Bardstown home at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 15.
An autopsy performed Wednesday confirmed that Rayford died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Police did not find a weapon at the scene.
