Tuesday, June 21, 2016, 7 p.m. — A New Haven man was injured Tuesday morning after he was apparently beaten and shot in the face sometime Shooting_jpg_475x310_q85before 8 a.m. at the Dollar General Store in Deatsville, 6668 New Shepherdsville Road.

Store employees called 911 after Michael P. Young, 38, came into the store covered in his own blood. Police and EMS were dispatched to the store at 8:05 a.m. The first officers on the scene requested a detective to respond to the scene. Sheriff Ed Mattingly also responded to the store.

A sheriff’s office press release states that Young was coherent when police arrived but refused to cooperate with investigators. Young told police he knew who the shooter was but would not identify him. Mattingly said Young could have been shot well before the store opened at 8 a.m.

Investigators searched for evidence inside Young’s white 1998 Jeep Cherokee he was in at the store’s parking lot. Police later impounded the vehicle.

Nelson County EMS transported Young from the scene directly to University Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, (502) 348-1840 or Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
