NC GAZETTE / WBRT RADIO
STAFF REPORT

Wednesday, June 22, 2016, 9 a.m. — The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Nelson County EMS responded to the area of Boston Road and Bellwood Road for an overturned fully loaded semi tractor-trailer rig hauling 78 head of cattle. First responders were dispatched to the area at about 6 p.m. nc_fire200Tuesday.

The Nelson County Fire Department was called to help remove the cattle from the overturned trailer. The driver, Eric Harmon, 24, of Mount Sterling, and his passenger, Eric Lee, of Winchester, were both out of the 2005 International semi when first-responders arrived. Lee was transported by EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.

A second EMS squad was requested to stand by during the recovery operations due to the number of first-responders on the scene and the number of cattle that would need to be recovered. Traffic on Boston Road was blocked until the truck was removed and cattle were recovered. Firefighters were on the scene until about 8 p.m.

If Boston Road residents observe stray cattle they believe may have come from the cattle truck accident, they should call Nelson County Dispatch, (502) 348-3211.
