Monday, June 27, 2016, 9 a.m. — On Wednesday, June 22, the Spokes America — eight students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University — stopped to visit the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Springfield campus.

ectc2Each summer the Spokes America team travels by bicycle across the U.S. to teach lessons on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workshops along their route. This year their Kentucky stops included Bardstown, Elizabethtown, Harrodsburg, Lexington, Hazard and Springfield.

The Spokes team toured the Springfield campus to see the training classrooms and find out more about the programs available through Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. The team’s stop in Springfield was mentioned in the Spokes team blog:

“We’ve been fortunate enough to have a string of amazing hosts in the past week. The day before, we stayed in Springfield, KY with Steve Hale who hosted Spokes last year as well. Steve provided a delicious Southern dinner (at a buffet a block away from where he met his wife, adorably enough) where he introduced us to the mayor of Springfield (Debbie Wakefield), arranged a tour of ECTC (Elizabethtown Community and Technical College) with its phenomenal labs and programs”
