JAMES LEE “JIM” PRENTICE SR.

James Lee “Jim” Prentice Sr., 84, of Bardstown, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Norton’s Brownsboro Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He grew up in Louisville and was very proud that he paid his way to attend St. Xavier High School (Class of ’49) and the University of Louisville, setting a strong example for his two younger siblings and his sons. He moved his family from Louisville to call Bardstown home when he was hired as a chemist by Barton Brands Ltd. (Barton 1792) in 1960. He retired from Barton Brands in 1994 after 34 years of service.

A strong family man, He instilled those very same values in his two sons. He was active in the Bardstown Little League program both as a coach and president. He enjoyed watching his beloved Louisville Cardinals with his family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, the former Mary Sottile; his parents, George R. Sr. and Helen Prentice; one sister, Barbara Prentice Brown; and one brother, George R. (Buddy) Prentice.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the wonderful staff and residents of Atria Springdale for making their community such a loving home the past two years.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, James L. Prentice Jr. (Cindy) of Elizabethtown, and Christopher J. Prentice (Julie) of Louisville; three grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Jennifer; six nieces; and three nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Barlow Funeral Home with a prayer service Tuesday evening.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to Hosparus of Louisville.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
