Wednesday, July 20, 2016, 7:30 p.m. — The former Cox’s Creek Elementary School building — the former site of the Bardstown City School district’s alternative school program — was declared surplus Tuesday by the Bardstown Board of Education.

The old school building — located on a six-acre tract at 6855 Old Louisville Road — is no longer needed after the district’s purchase of the former Salt River Electric property on Templin Avenue.

The first part of the process of disposing of the property — once the state education department approves the declaration of the property as surplus — is to have the property appraised, Joey Downs, the district’s director of human resources and technology, told the board.

Once the property is appraised, there are three ways the board can proceed to dispose of the property, Downs explained.

The property can be sold by advertising for sealed bids; it can be sold at public auction; or sold by listing the property for sale with a real estate agent.

In all cases, the appraisal is used to determine the appropriate price for the property, Downs said.

Once the property sells, it actually isn’t “sold” until the Kentucky Department of Education signs off on the sale, he explained.

The board approved declaring the property as surplus, and also approved having the property appraised.
