Thursday, July 21, 2016, 4:40 p.m. (UPDATED 8 p.m.) — Police apprehended a Bardstown woman after she led police on a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon that began on Bard Avenue and ended at the I-65 interchange on KY 245 in Bullitt County.

police-with-tape-car.previewAt about 2:52 p.m. Thursday, Bardstown Police Sgt. Michael Medley responded to the area of Bard Homes Apartments for a report of a naked woman in the parking lot. The woman, who police identified as Stephanie Crowe, 28, of Bardstown, left the area before police arrived. A witness told police Crowe left in a red 2007 four-door Nissan passenger car. Medley caught up with Crowe’s vehicle as she left the area and attempted to stop it.

But Crowe did not stop, and instead continued driving west on KY 245 toward US31E. From there, the pursuit continued west on John Rowan Boulevard at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour and left the city limits. Crowe continued driving north on KY 245 until making a turn into the Rooster Run General Store parking lot, where she cut through the grass and turned back onto KY245, nearly striking the pursuing officers’ vehicles.

As the chase entered Bullitt County, officers dropped back after Crowe was observed swerving into oncoming traffic, apparently sideswiped at least one vehicle in the process.

Bullitt County sheriff’s deputies deployed “stop stick” tire deflation devices on KY245 near the entrance to Bernheim Forest. The devices deflated at least one rear tire, but the pursuit continued onto the northbound ramp of Interstate 65 where the vehicle became immobilized. Police apprehended Crowe when the vehicle stopped.

In addition to Medley, other officers involved in the pursuit include Bardstown Officer Nathan Phillips, six Nelson County deputies; two Bullitt County deputies; and a Kentucky State Police trooper.

Crowe was taken to Flaget Memorial Hospital for evaluation and her car was impounded. Charges are pending the outcome of the hospital evaluation, according to a police department press release.

The investigation is ongoing.
