Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 — Bardstown resident Roger Marcum was recently honored for his work as an education leader by the board of directors of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.

Marcum was presented with the William T. Nallia Award for his work as an educational leader who has shown “a spirit of innovation in exemplary service to Kentucky’s students.” Marcum was one of several award recipients recognized at the annual KASA Leadership Institute.

The award is named for the former KASA executive director who led the organization during its early years.

Marcum is currently chair of the Kentucky Board of Education. He previously served with distinction as an innovative principal and as Marion County Schools superintendent. He previously served a president of KASA, and was presented with the KASA Distinguished Service Award in 2009. He left Marion County Schools to serve as executive vice-president of St. Catharine College.

“His time on the state board has been marked by an unwavering commitment to improving educational opportunities for Kentucky’s children, without regard to political expediency or popular opinion,” outgoing KASA President Barry Lee said. “It is that work which we honor with this award.”
