Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 — Councilman Bobby Simpson announced Thursday morning that he would not run again for a seat on the Bardstown City Council.
“After a lot of thought and consideration, I have decided not to run in the upcoming election,” Simpson said in his statement. “I will continue to help the people of Bardstown in any way I can.”
Simpson also thanked those who supported him as a member of the council for the past 16 years.
During his time as a member of the council, Simpson advocated for tighter budgets and greater control over the budget, particularly in expenditures. Simpson cast votes against the past three city budgets due largely to increasing expenditures.
So far 16 candidates have filed for the six council seats, with additional filings anticipated now that Simpson has decided not to run in November. The filing deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday.
