Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, 7 p.m. — Kathy Hurst Settles has filed her candidacy paperwork Thursday to seek one of the four Nelson County Soil Conservation district supervisor seats that will be on the November ballot.

Settles, 60, is a resident of Ben Irvin Road

Soil conservation supervisors govern the Nelson County Soil Conservation District and serve a four-year term. If the number of candidates who file for soil conservation supervisor equal the number of vacancies, the county clerk certifies the supervisors elected and they will not be listed on the November ballot.

The deadline to file for the non-partisan local offices — city council, city commission, soil conservation district and city and county school boards — on the November ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Voters who wish to update their voter registration information must do so at the Nelson County Clerk’s office prior to 4 p.m. Oct. 11, 2016.
