Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, 3 p.m. — One of the 16 people who have filed as candidates for Bardstown City Council withdrew from the race Friday.
Michael Johnson was one of the first candidates to file for a seat on the Bardstown City Council. In an email to news media, he explained why he decided to withdraw from the race.
“I am appreciative of those who have expressed their support of my seeking a seat on Bardstown City Council. Since filing as a candidate, some circumstances have changed and I have decided that now is not the time for me to seek office. This decision will allow me to focus on some other matters that need my attention.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the community in other capacities and I am pleased that the residents of Bardstown will have a broad spectrum of candidates to choose from in November.”
Johnson is a member of the Bardstown-Nelson County Human Rights Commission.
The deadline to file for the non-partisan races that will be on the November ballot is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9.
