Cecil previously served 20 years as New Haven mayor, and said she was filing as a candidate “to give something back to the community.”

Cecil said she had served with Mattingly when he was on the city commission, and expressed her gratitude that he was filing as a candidate who is a student of local history.

Mattingly said that since he has retired from General Electric, he the time to dedicate to serving as commissioner and looked forward to doing so again.

Cecil and Mattingly are the fourth and fifth candidates for the four city commission seats.

FAIRFIELD. Incumbent Fairfield city commissioner Shirley A. Mattingly filed for re-election Tuesday as well.

Mattingly, 68, a resident of Little Union Road, is the third candidate to file for the commission. With four commission seats on the November ballot, the commission will be one candidate short. If no one files as a write-in candidate, a commissioner will be appointed after the new commission takes office.

BLOOMFIELD. Incumbent Laura Barnett filed Tuesday to return to the Bloomfield City Council.

Barnett, 56, is a resident of Fairfield Hill Road. She was the fifth candidate to file for the six council seats. If no one files as a write-in candidate, the sixth council member will be appointed after the new council takes office.

BARDSTOWN CITY COUNCIL. Seventeen candidates filed for Bardstown City Council, though one — Michael Johnson — withdrew from the race last Friday.

The list of candidates include two former Bardstown mayors — Dick Heaton and Bill Sheckles — former city councilman Joe Buckman, former county attorney John Kelley Jr. and four incumbents — Roland “Coach Roe” Williams, Francis Lydian, Kecia Copeland and Bill Buckman.

Bobby Simpson and Fred Hagan did not seek another term on the council.

Councilman Fred Hagan will be a guest Wednesday 11 a.m. on WBRT’s “Bradford & Brooks” discussing the city’s need for additional revenue.

WRITE-IN DEADLINE. The deadline to file a declaration as a write-in candidate is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2016.
