Obituary: Col. Paul J. Smith Jr., 76, Springfield

Retired U.S. Marine Corps. Col. Paul J. Smith Jr. 76, of Loretto Road, Springfield, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Hamilton Smith; one daughter, Susan Annette Smith of Bardstown; two sons, Michael Joseph Smith (Nicolette) of Truckee, Calif. and Paul Hamilton Smith (Jennifer Evans) of Lexington; one brother, Michael David Smith of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in the St. Rose Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, and 7-10:30 a.m. Saturday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project.

The Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of the arrangements.
