Police still searching for subject who fled on foot in Botland area

Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, 9:30 p.m. (UPDATED Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 11 a.m.) — A man wanted on multiple arrests warrants fled police on foot Monday afternoon at the 150 Quick Stop on Springfield Road in the Botland community is still at large.

Daniel Dewayne Abney, 31, ran from police Monday afternoon and escaped on foot into nearby woods in the Botland area. Abney was last seen wearing a red t-shirt, green shorts and no shoes. A sheriff’s office social media post states that Abney has an extensive criminal history that includes assaults and drug use. He has outstanding arrest warrants for larceny/theft out of Texas, and has pending felony charges in Kentucky.

He is described as a white male, 6’1″ tall, 165 lbs, with blond/strawberry blond hair and blue eyes.

BACKGROUND. On Monday afternoon Nelson County Sheriff Deputy A.J. Lewis was dispatched to 150 Quick Stop someone reported a suspicious man in the area trying to find a ride to Bowling Green.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, when Lewis arrived, the man began walking away from him and refused to talk. The man then began running. Lewis pursued the man, took him down as both went over an embankment. At that point, the man pulled away from Lewis and ran back toward the store. He crossed Springfield Road and disappeared into a wooded area.

Additional deputies responded to the Botland area in an attempt to locate the man. The man has not been taken in to custody as of 9 p.m. Monday.
