Obituary: Joseph Raymond Dant, 92, of Lebanon

JOSEPH RAYMOND DANT

Joseph Raymond Dant, 92, of Lebanon, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at The Village of Lebanon Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born March 27, 1924, in Dant Station. He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1942. He served in the Army during World War II from March 1943 to April 1946 in France, Germany and Austria and achieved the rank of Sergeant. In May 1969 he was elected Marion County Circuit Clerk and began his term in January 1970. He ran unopposed for the next 18 years and served Marion County until his retirement in 1988. He loved music, dancing, singing in the St. Augustine Choir, playing cards, traveling and his cars. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 21 years, Aline Bland Dant (1971); one stepson, Dennis Raymond Fowler; his parents, Harry and Florence Dant; one sister, Frances Fenwick; and four brothers, James Dant, Leo Dant, Harry Dant and Phillip Dant.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Clarice Bland Fowler Dant; one daughter, Mary Beth (Richard Toz) Williams of Winchester; one son, Tommy (Wanda) Dant of Campton; one stepdaughter, Mary Kay (David) Clements of Lebanon; three stepsons, Terry Fowler and Jerry Fowler, both of Lebanon and Bill (Jeanine) Fowler of Lexington; two stepdaughters-in-law, Kathy Spalding Fowler of Bardstown and Lynette (Mark) Traylor of Georgetown; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, one due in November and a great-grandson, Barfield, due in December; and a special caregiver, Caitlyn Bradley.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, with the Rev. Bill Bowling and Deacon Joe Dant officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery with military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation is 4-8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at the Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday with Deacon Joe Dant.

Pallbearers are grandsons Matthew Clements, Ryan Dant, Jerry Fowler, Jr., Bernard Fowler, III, Drew Fowler, April Fowler for her brother, Charlie Fowler, Stephen Williams and Patrick Williams.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard Bus Fund, 400 East Lovers Lane, Lebanon, KY. 40033.
