Obituary: William T. Koernke Sr., 94, Bardstown
William T. Koernke Sr., 94, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at Colonial Health and Rehab. He was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was a retired firefighter for the Ann Arbor Fire Department for 26 years and retired in 1973. He also served as a deputy sheriff in Washtenaw County, Mich. for 37 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on DE 201 – the USS James E. Craig. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Past Master of the Golden Rule Lodge in Ann Arbor, and attended Wickland Baptist Church in Bardstown.
He was preceded in death his by sister, Helen Vogel; and two brothers, John Koernke and Paul Koernke.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years Juanita C. Koernke of Bardstown; two daughters, J. Carol Carter of Adrian, Mich. and Janice Kaye Emmons of Azalia, Mich,; three sons, William T. Koernke Jr. of Bardstown, John E. Koernke of Bradenton, Fla. and Mark G. Koernke of Dexter, Mich.; three sisters, Virginia, Ruby, Nancy; one brother, Richard; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery with Pastor Dennis King officiating.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Barlow Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may go to Wickland Baptist Church.
