Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, 3 p.m. — Nelson Fiscal Court unanimously approved a request to fund a World War II memorial to join the existing memorials on the east side of the Old Courthouse.
At a special meeting Tuesday morning, the court allocated $12,000 to fund the monument, which will record the names of Nelson County residents who gave their lives during World War II.
Judge Executive Dean Watts told the court the monument will honor the memories of the 76 county residents died during the war. Former Bardstown mayor Dr. Harry Spalding helped Watts research the names of those who died during the war.
2016 TAX RATE SET. The court also gave final approval of the county 2016 property tax rate,w which will stay the same at 14.3 cents per $100 value for both real estate and tangible property.
Due to an increase in property assessments in the county, the tax rate is anticipated to generate approximately $40,000 in additional revenue this year. The additional revenue will be used for maintenance and repair projects at the Civic Center and Old Courthouse, Watts explained.
NEXT UP. Nelson Fiscal Court will next meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.
