The Rev. Lawrence H. Lindle, 84, formerly of Bardstown, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. He was 84 and had been a priest for 57 years.
Lindle, a native of Louisville, was a retired priest who had been in ministry for 57 years. He served as director of the Sacred Heart Center and the Marian Center until his death. He was founder of the rosary
He was born in Buechel on Sept. 5, 1932, the son of the late Earnest Halpin and Florence Cecilia Kustes Lindle.
He attended Hikes Grade School, St. Agnes School, St. Bartholomew, St. Mary’s Seminary and St. Maur in South Union. He was ordained to the priesthood May 23, 1959, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. His first Mass was at St. Bartholomew in Buechel on May 24, 1959.
He served as associate pastor at St. Joseph Cathedral in Bardstown 1973-1975 and St. Gabriel in Fern Creek 1975-1980. He returned to Nelson County to serve as past0r at Immaculate Conception in Culvertown (1990-2006) and at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Greenbrier (1990-1995).
He also served as assistant pastor at Guardian Angels (1959-1966), St. Mathias (1966-1968); St. Mildred in Somerset, and at Emmanuel in Albany, St. Peter in Monticello and Holy Spirit in Jamestown (1968-1973). He served as pastor at St. Paul on Jackson Street in Louisville from 1980-1990.
After retirement, he served as Chaplain at Franciscan Home in Louisville.
In 1980 he was appointed Director of the Sacred Heart Center for the Archdiocese of Louisville and in 1987 he was appointed Director of the Marian Committee for the Archdiocese. He held both positions until his death.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1951; his mother in 2005; his brother Louis in 2013 and one sister Martha Henson in 2011.
Survivors include his sister, Sr. Lois Jean Lindle, O.S.U; one brother, Raymond Leo Lindle (Shirley); his sister-in-law, Mary M. Lindle; his brother-in-law H. Ray Henson; four nieces; five nephews; and several great and great-great-nieces/nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at St. Bartholomew Church, 2042 Buechel Bank Road, the church where he celebrated his first Mass as a priest. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation is after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Rd., Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his memory to Our Lady’s Rosary Makers, 4611 Poplar Level Road or to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph, 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, KY 42356.
