Obituary: Louise Tyler Edelen Greenwell, 96, Bardstown

Louise Tyler Edelen Greenwell, 96, of Bardstown, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at Atria Assisted Living of Elizabethtown after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. She was the former Louise Tyler and was born in Buechel on Nov. 8, 1919. She was the eldest member of the Bardstown First funeral_candleChristian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she was bestowed the honor of Deacon Emeritus. She loved her church and church family.

She was in the beauty business for 48 years owning and operating Louise’s Beauty Shop in Bardstown. After retiring from the beauty business, she was a volunteer at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a devoted wife to Jack Edelen and later to Hinkle Greenwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Parrott and Roger C. Tyler; two husbands, John S. “Jack” Edelen Jr. and Hubert “Hinkle” Greenwell; one son, John S. Edelen III; one sister, Mildred Tyler Meredith; two brothers, Gilbert Tyler and Roger C. Tyler Jr.; and two stepdaughters, Edna Marie Greenwell and Judy Cassell.

She is survived by one daughter, Ann Edelen Daugherty (Norman) of Elizabethtown; seven stepchildren, Becky Kappel (Tommy) of Lebanon Junction, Sandy Schaefer (Bob), Cathy Feldkamp, Ron Greenwell and Jim Greenwell (Linda) all of Louisville and Terry Wood (Woody) and Denny Greenwell (Peggy), both of Bardstown; three grandchildren, Laura Johnson (David) of Georgetown, Todd Daugherty (Cheryl) of Lexington and Dana Wilson (Phil) of Elizabethtown; five great-granddaughters; and a special nephew, Jim Meredith (Sharon) of Havre De Grace, Md.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hosparus of Central Kentucky.

The Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction is in charge of arrangements.
