Obituary: James ‘Alvin’ Thompson, 85, Hodgenville
James “Alvin” Thompson, 85, of Hodgenville, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a three year battle with cancer and heart problems. He was born March 31, 1931 in Magnolia to the late Roy and Pearl Ballard Thompson. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. He retired from Clark Refinery as a supervisor after more than 30 years of service and as a farmer for more than 40 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nella Ballard Thompson; one son, Mark Thompson; one sister, Versie Thompson Clopton; and five brothers, William Thompson, Joe Thompson, Leamon Thompson, Edward Thompson, and Jess Thompson.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynn F. Phillips (Jack Henderson) of Elizabethtown; one son, Daniel (Angela) Thompson of San Angelo, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Thompson of New Mexico; two sisters, Martha Turner of Hodgenville and Geneva (Buddy) Milby of Magnolia; two brothers, Clarence (Peggy) Thompson of Mount Sherman and Hank (Evelyn) Thompson of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Matthew Phillips, James Thompson and Rebecca Thompson; two stepgrandchildren, Shannon Thompson and Travis Thompson; several great-grandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral is 11 a.m.Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel with Bro. Gerald Gardner officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, and 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, 612 North Lincoln Blvd. is in charge of the arrangements.
