Obituary: Marnie Smith, 76, Cox’s Creek

MARNIE SMITH

Marnie Smith, 76, of Cox’s Creek, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He was born Nov. 26, 1939, in Cox’s Creek to the late Everett and Ethel Grigsby Smith. He was a farmer, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, and a retired teacher for the Nelson County Board of Education with 28 years of service. He was a member of The Nelson County Retired Teachers Association and Chaplin Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and former church treasurer. He was a member of Gideon’s International for the Bardstown Camp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Gladys Coulter, Veneta Burns, Lottie McComb, Sandra Scott, and Vickie Smith; and three brothers, Calvin Smith, Hedger Smith, and Glenn Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Hibbs Smith; two sons, Clay Smith of Cox’s Creek and Gene (Alana) Smith of Chaplin; three sisters, Olena (Rev. Wayne) Brickner of Birmingham, Ala., Alma Brown of Charlestown, Ind., Becky (Bob) Bennett of Duncan,; five brothers, Eugene (Betty) Smith of Campbellsville, and Nathaniel (Betty) Smith and Kenny Smith, both of Henryville, Ind.., and Finace (Cindy) Smith of Georgetown, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Raina Smith and Sheperd Smith.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at Chaplin Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Thompson officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at the church.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to Gideon’s International or the donor’s favorite charity.

The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
