Obituary: Lily Franklin Whittington, 89, Chaplin

LILY FRANKLIN WHITTINGTON

 

Lily Franklin Whittington, 89, of Chaplin, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Bardstown Health and Rehab. She was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Lawrenceburg. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Chaplin Fork Baptist Church. She was one of the Franklin Sisters who sang on a program on WBRT radio in Bardstown for 20 years on Sunday mornings. She also sang for Billy Graham’s revival in New York City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Duncan Whittington; her parents, Owen Townsend and Martha Ethel Franklin; two sisters, Ruth Franklin Berman and Martha Franklin; three brothers, Hal Franklin, Howard Franklin, and Owen Lee Franklin.

She is survived by three nephews, Chris (Judy) Franklin and Mark Franklin both of Louisville, and Stephen Franklin of Cox’s Creek; and a great-niece, Stephanie Franklin of Louisville.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin with Bro. Ed Cumbo officiating.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016 and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
